It’s more of an illusion caused by the grids on the paper. Take the grid out, place one on top of the other, and you will see they are not the same size (or more mathematically, they do not take up the same area).
Both the triangles are the same size and if you placed them on top of each other they would fit exactly. but have a look at the hypotenuse of the top triangle, it’s ever so slightly curved, and that is the secret.

If you actually look at it you will see that it is not a paradox. The pieces all work.
